Halloween

Create a slimy experience for toddlers without the mess with a sensory bag! It’s a perfect sensory activity for Halloween.
As well as perfect for all ages, including babies and toddlers! I saw these Halloween and fall hair gel sensory suncatchers from Happy Hooligans. They have lots of ideas that they added to their sensory bag suncatchers.
What’s in this sensory bag? Just hair gel.
Add googly eyes for some Halloween fun.
Our hair gel just happened to be orange, so there was no coloring needed to get our Halloween effect. If you have clear hair gel add food coloring or paint to the bag (or two primary colors to learn about mixing!) for added sensory and mixing fun!
Tape it on a window that gets great sunlight and you’ve created a spooky suncatcher!
Keep exploring with these 48 Quick Sensory Bags for kids!
Or try it with a fine motor twist! Take a look at this sensory bag:
George absolutely loved this and felt the bag in every way he could! Including his mouth.
(Warning: be careful to not let them bite the bag… if they do, simply tape over the hole with scotch tape! I may have had to do this…)
Wonderful sensory goodness going on.
A sensory bag is just one of the many fun sensory activities! Check out all 25 of them!
Henry was at school while George explored the googly eye slime.
But when Henry got home, he immediately went to the window to see what it was all about.
He drove the dual wheel of his tractor through it over and over, watching the ‘tracks’ it made in the gel.
Pretty nifty SPOOKY sensory stuff!

Thanks for the ideas! May I suggest replacing the gel with cooled water that’s been boiled with corn starch! The cornstarch turns clear and as it cools it thickens becoming gel like… Not toxic! As the gel might be if the ingest it….I turned mine into finger paint ;)

Very cool suggestion! Thank you!!!

Thank you for b this suggestion am in the middle of making some up for when my 2 little munchkins wake up. I am always worried about using hair gel etc as one will try and bite it but this looks a really good alternative

Thank you for this fun idea! I mean, I know about sensory bags for learning in the classroom and teaching adjectives. However, I never thought about it for a fun summer activity! I’ve been trying to figure out ways to engage my younger sister, as well as motivate her into doing some studying this summer.
We did a Summer-Themed Sensory Bag (because it’s summer and we live near the beach) with oil, food colouring, sand and seashells, a sun (foam cut-out) and seaweed (yarn)! It was cool and she loved it! Tomorrow, we’re doing the lava lamp! So I figure, I’ll let her do some fun activities and then learn the times tables afterwards.
Thank you again for really easy, fun and cost-effective activities!

What a great sensory experience. I like the fact that it is vertical rather than on the floor-just for something a little different.

For the lady who was worried about the bag being bitten open, I’ve done this using a weak Jelly mix (we’ve used red & green so far) We had no hair gel lol. So glad to read you had another safe delivery Melissa :) and a pink version to go with your blues! woohoo (I have 2 blues and a pink) Thank you for sharing so many wonderful ideas xxxxxx

Oh man, I love this! We’ve done different varieties like paint and glue mixtures, but I’ve never thought to add things like googly eyes (which my sons love!). Definitely doing this today!
Bonnie says
I will have to try this with my kids. They would love this!

I love the idea but my concern would be that the child bites or rips a hole in the bag. I have no idea what hair gel is made of, but it can’t be very healthy if eaten.
Sarah @ How Wee Learn says
Such a great idea! My Benjamin will love it – he is one also … poor babe sometimes gets left out of all the fun!

Just love it, especially on the sliding door. Can see using it with kiddos in a class for students with severe disabilities. K.
